Gerunds

-A verbal is a word that is formed from a verb but functions as another part of speech. The three types of verbals include participles, gerunds, and infinitives.

-Gerunds are verbals that end in the -ing form and are used as nouns.

-Gerund phrases include the gerunds and all of the words related to it.

Examples:
-gerunds are colored and the phrases are bolded

Gerunds may be used in the following forms:


Subject: Singing at All State Chorus is Ashley's favorite memory from high school.

Direct Object: They always appreciate her offering to the church.

Subject Complement: Terran's favorite activity this year has been competing in gymnastics.

Object of Preposition: He got in trouble for cheating on the physics assignment.
